What is the difference between a Bridge Crane and a Gantry Crane?

Bridge cranes and gantry cranes are the second-level classification under the classification of bridge cranes and jib cranes. There are more specific subdivisions below them, and the styles, performances, etc. are very different. Due to space limitations, it is inconvenient to compare them one by one here, so we will select typical equipment with more applications for review, hoping to enhance everyone's understanding of lifting machinery.

Here we take double girder bridge crane and double main girder gantry crane as examples

Same Point

It can be applied to the working environment of indoor lifting and hoisting, and most of them are driven by electricity. In the case of installing rainproof equipment or rainproof measures, they can work outdoors.

Difference

Difference 1: The appearance is different.

1. Bridge crane (a bridge shaped like a bridge that moves)

2. Gantry crane (like a moving door frame)

Difference 2: The running track is different.

1. The bridge crane is a lifting device that is horizontally mounted on the rails of the fixed crotch pillars of the building, and is used in workshops, warehouses, etc., for loading, unloading, and lifting and handling work indoors or in the open air.

2. Gantry crane is a deformation of bridge crane, also known as gantry crane. There are two tall outriggers at both ends of the main beam, which run along the track on the ground.

Difference 3: The scenarios to be applied are different.

1. The bridge frame of the bridge crane runs longitudinally along the rails laid on the elevated sides on both sides, which can make full use of the space under the bridge frame to lift materials without being hindered by ground equipment. It is a kind of hoisting machinery with a wide range of applications and a large number, and it is more common in workshops, warehouses and other indoor areas.

2. The gantry crane has the characteristics of high site utilization rate, large operation range, wide adaptability and strong versatility, and is widely used in port freight yards.

In one sentence, the portal type has its own legs, and the wheels are on the ground (the rails are laid on the ground); the bridge type is in the air, and the wheels are on the beams of the pillars (the rails are laid on the beams), and the beams are set on the brackets extended from the pillars ( horns) on.
