The number of poles directly affects the output power of the motor. By adjusting the number of poles within certain volume and weight limits, the output power of the motor can be customized. More magnetic poles result in a lower magnetic field strength, which reduces the output power. Conversely, fewer magnetic poles result in higher magnetic field strength and higher output power.
The rated speed of the motor, that is, the highest speed under rated voltage and load, is affected by the number of poles. The more poles, the slower the magnetic field changes, resulting in a relatively low rated speed. On the contrary, the fewer the number of poles, the faster the change, the higher the rated speed.
